Food Service is under the direction of the Support Services Manager, assisted by our Registered Dietician.
Food is an important part of the Resident experience at Simpson Manor. We know our residents enjoy meal time, and our goal is to make it pleasurable and interesting every day. Our kitchen produces for our Residents attractive and nutritional meals based on their individual dietary requirements and preferences. At various times throughout the year, with our Residents, we conduct sample tastings of possible future meals and snacks. We believe their input not only has high value, the event itself creates a positive atmosphere and improved experience for those residents within our dining rooms.
Food preparation and service is provided by experienced, professionally trained Cooks as well as Foodsafe-certified Dietary Aides.
Dining Rooms are located in each of the neighbourhoods (wings). Meal service times are approximate and generally begin as follows:
Our breakfast is typical with breakfast cereals, oatmeal, eggs, toast, pancakes, etc. Lunch is usually the main meal, often served as a hot meal. Dinner typically consists of soup and sandwich. Our four-week rotating menu changes with the seasons, fall/winter and spring/summer menus are prepared in advance.
Afternoon nourishment is served daily at 2:30 p.m. in the dining rooms. Check the activities schedule for special tea-time events. Evening snacks are also provided.
Our seasonal menus are developed in conjunction with our Dietician. At various times throughout the year we substitute the seasonal menu to celebrate holidays and special events. Most notably, our annual Christmas party occurs in the first or second weeks of December.
Our Recreation Department may take residents out to dinner at a local restaurants, or on a picnic at times throughout the year. Contact the Recreation Manager for more information, or to coordinate you joining us at one our our dining experiences.
Modified diets are provided as and when ordered by a dietitian or physician, or at the regularly scheduled care conferences for each resident.
